The capital of the state is Chennai, which until 1996 was known as Madras. Chennai is the fourth largest city in India, and is known as the auto capital of India. Chennai is also home to Marina Beach, one of the longest beaches in the world at 7.5 miles of beautiful beach, surf, and sun.

Music and festivals are a daily occurrence in Tamil Nadu and residents spend a great deal of time with family and friends celebrating their culture and heritage. The people here also spend time making some of the most exquisite handicrafts, which include intricate carved designs in wood, stone, and metal. People in Tamil Nadu are also great lovers of food. Agriculture is the main livelihood of most of the population and the crops of sugarcane, bananas, potatoes, teas, and spices are not only exported, but used in many of their dishes. Most food in Tamil Nadu is made up of rice, grains, vegetables and lentils. Meals usually contain a rice dish along with a vegetable dish. Meat such as chicken and mutton are also eaten.

People come from everywhere to visit this gorgeous land, and it is well worth the visit.
